PokerStars entered the mobile poker space last year in 2012, which is much later than many operators. Currently PokerStars is only focusing on the two biggest mobile markets, as they’ve only developed standalone apps for the iOS and Android OS.
Installing PokerStars Mobile to Your Device
Downloading the PokerStars Mobile app is 100% free and it’ll allow you to access all of the mobile features. If your mobile device is running on the iOS you can download the app from iTunes and if you’re running on Android you can install the app from PokerStars.
The PokerStars iOS app will work on iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches that run on iOS 4.1.x or higher. To run the Android app you’ll need to be running Android 2.2 or higher and your mobile device only needs to have a minimum screen resolution of 800 x 480.
Most of the popular Android devices will work fine with PokerStars Mobile. Some of the compatible Android mobile devices include the Samsung Galaxy, Galaxy Nexus, Motorola Droid RAZR, Acer Liquid A1, HTC Sensation/Desire and plenty of other Androids.
PokerStars Mobile is available in over a dozen languages already including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Danish, Polish, Russian, Finnish, Swedish, Portuguese and several others. Simply choose your preferred language when you install the app. For a step-by-step guide on getting this app loaded onto your phone, you can visit their site – they even have a video that will walk you through the process.
PokerStars Mobile Games & Features
What most people don’t realize about PokerStars Mobile is that it uses the same player pool as the computer poker client. You’ll get to play on the same tables as players on computers and that means there is never a shortage of action due to the huge traffic.
All of the poker ring table games and tournaments are available on PokerStars Mobile. You can even play Zoom Poker, but you still can’t play “Home Games” on your mobile device. You won’t be able to request stats or tourney histories on the mobile app either.
Multi-tabling is compatible on the PokerStars Mobile apps. If you’re using an iPad you can play up to five tables at once and if you’re playing on an iPhone, iPod Touch or Android you’ll be able to play up to four tables at the same time at PokerStars.
Before you can start playing any mobile poker on PokerStars you need to open an account if you don’t have one. Players can open a new account on their mobile device after they download the app or you can sign-up on your computer and then sign-in to the app.
When you’re selecting a game to play you can use the same filters available on the PC and Mac poker client. Once you choose your filters you can also use a simple “Play Now” button to be brought to a table with the same format as the last table you played on.
One of the best mobile features at PokerStars is the “Web-Cashier”. Mobile poker players using the Android OS can make deposits and withdrawals using the web-cashier right away while iOS users need to make their 1st deposit on a computer beforehand.
For the best experience it’s recommended that you use a WiFi connection to play on PokerStars Mobile although you can also use a 3G connection. There have been connectivity issues with 3G connections plus your service provider may charge a data fee.
One question I’m asked a lot is what happens if someone phones me? If you receive a call that you answer the app will go into the “Background Mode” where you’ll sit-out until you’re back. After 25 seconds you’ll be disconnected and have to reconnect though.
Most countries are able to play on PokerStars Mobile now as long as you have an iOS or Android OS device. The app supports both real money and play money action, so you can test out the mobile poker tables with play money before playing with real money.
